What Causes Sweaty Palms?
Suffering from sweaty palms, also referred to as palmar hyperhidrosis, can be a very bothersome and embarrassing condition. Introductions are met with tension as the thought of shaking someone’s hand becomes stressful, romantic handholding and other social gestures may seem out of the question and even handling everyday tasks such as typing become frustrating.
Palmer hyperhidrosis is a condition that many people struggle with. In fact, it is estimated to affect at least 1% of the American population. While normal sweating serves the purpose of regulating body temperature, those people with hyperhidrosis seem to sweat excessively, often without reason.
This occurs when there is a problem with the sympathetic nervous system which controls many of our automatic bodily processes. The area in the brain called the hypothalamus usually regulates and controls sweating, however in cases of hyperhidrosis, something goes wrong between the message the brain sends to the sweat nerves and the amount of sweat produced.
