These days, people lead very busy lives. Between work, home and family, many people simply can't seem to find the time to make exercise and their health a top priority.  Gym memberships are not always an option. They can be expensive to join and are not always conveniently located. The hours may not be compatible with one's schedule or there simply isn't enough time to go regularly.

No access to a gym doesn't mean there aren't ways to fit more activity and exercise into your daily life. Use these 12 tips to get moving and improve your health.

Power clean the house. Housework is something that has to be done anyway, let it also help you get some much needed exercise. Vacuuming, mopping, and other heavier housecleaning chores can burn a significant amount of calories.

Purchase workout videos or subscribe to a fitness channel so you can exercise in the comfort of your home. Even a few minutes of exercise is beneficial, especially first thing in the morning. Early exercise provides sustained energy that lasts throughout the day, boosting productivity and efficiency.

Ride a bike to work or to run errands if possible. It's a fun and practical way to engage in regular exercise.

Sit on a stability ball instead of a chair when working on the computer. It helps build core muscles and maintain balance. It's a great way to get some work done and resist the negative effects of sitting all day.

Exercise during commercial breaks when watching television instead of heading to the kitchen or checking email. Do cardiovascular exercises like jumping jacks to get your blood pumping, or do some yoga poses to calm down after a long, stressful day. 

Purchase a physically active game for your gaming system. There are many games that involve dance and other forms of physical movement. They can be fun for the whole family and can keep everyone moving even when the weather doesn't allow outdoor activities.

Keep equipment like balls, jump ropes, skates or a Frisbee near the outside door. Keeping these items accessible increases the likelihood they will be used.

Take the dog for a walk.  Both pet and owner can benefit from the company and the exercise.

Use a push mower instead of a riding mower in the summer. A push mower is a great full body workout. In the fall, rake leaves by hand.

Spend time outdoors getting fresh air and you'll most likely find all sorts of ways to be active. Gardening is a great choice because it is hard work that is ultimately rewarding. It is also an activity the whole family can participate in and benefit from. 

Go to the park and go for a walk or play on the equipment. There are many ways to be active in a park setting. Run around and play games like tag or hide and seek with the kids. Climb on the monkey bars to strengthen arms and legs.

Plan family outings that involve physical activity. Spend a day hiking some local trails, or take a weekend trip and go tent camping. Other ideas for fun seasonal activities are swimming, skiing or canoeing.
