With all of the many options on the market, how do you know which skincare products are safe, effective and right for your particular skin type?
Step 1: Define your skincare goal
Review your skincare history and the current state of your skin to determine what the main goal of using skincare products is. A dermatologist may help you to define what type of skin you have and what type of products may help to balance your skin type.
Step 2: Educate yourself on products that are available
Find out the benefits of each skin care line that you are considering. Many lines target different markets such as anti-aging or acne. Compare the companies by using steps 3 and 4.
Step 3: Evaluate the ingredients
Many ingredients in skincare products have not been proven safe and many have even been proven to be harmful. Educate yourself to know which ingredients to look for on a label. Avoid ingredients such as perfumes, fragrances, parabens, retinol, retinyl palmitate, triclosan, triclocarban, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, lactic acid and glycolic acid.
Step 4: Look for products that work together
Most lines are designed so that the products work cohesively. Make sure the line that you choose contains all of the constituents you are looking for in a skincare line.
Step 5: Get advice
Contact the company with any further questions. A representative or a professional such as an aesthetician may be able to help evaluate which products would be right for you.
Step 6: Buy the basic products and then expand
Start with a few items that work together such as the cleanser and moisturizer. If you are happy with these products, expand to the toners, exfoliators and specialty items.
Healthy, vibrant skin is something that can only be achieved by nourishing it both from the inside out and using soothing, natural products. A balanced, plant based diet provides antioxidants that keeps your skin healthy at a cellular level, and the right skincare products can shield your skin from external sources of damage.
