Homeopathic Reduction of Thyroid Cysts and Thyroid Enlargements

Tess Thompson

Cysts are small, anatomically normal sacs or bladder-like structures containing fluid. Usually ultrasound imaging reports of thyroid glands which mention ‘cystic lesions seen‘ leads to confusion. Lesions may refer to any localized abnormal structural change in the thyroid or an injury to living thyroid tissue.

Thyroid cysts are very rare lesions of the thyroid gland. What doctors and patients shrug away as thyroid cysts at times may actually be something more serious than a cyst. More often than not, these turn out to be benign tumors, and in some unfortunate cases, malignant. Actually a true thyroid cyst is nearly always benign. However, it is unfortunate that many times, thyroid nodules and thyroid enlargements are mistaken for cysts and left without treatment.

Thyroid problems relating to the enlargement of the gland are easily detectable by regular physical examination of the area at the base of the neck. A bulge may be the first sign of the start of hyperthyroidism, which relates to excessive production of thyroid hormone, T3 and T4. Other thyroid conditions include a low thyroid, which is inadequate production of thyroid hormones, goiter, Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and thyroid enlargement. Any of these thyroid problems are capable of causing wide disruptions in the metabolic processes of the body. If a true thyroid cyst is confirmed, then homeopathy can play an important role in treating this typical thyroid condition.

Homeopathy does not work on the principle of one remedy for all, and gives the same importance to an individual’s constitution as it does to symptoms. Some of the homeopathic remedies meant for treating various thyroid problems are meant to address the problem of enlargement, nodules and cysts. Some of these remedies are very effective in gradually reducing the size of a thyroid cyst, and ultimately in its elimination.

Homeopathic remedies like Lycopus, Natrium muraticum, Lachesis and Spongia tosta are typically used to treat symptoms of thyroid problems like hyperthyroidism, swelling, goiter, exophthalmos problems and thyroid enlargement. If benign or malignant tumors are ruled out and a thyroid cyst is confirmed, one of these remedies can effectively address the problem. However, as homeopathy is equally concerned with the personality of a patient, a homeopathic practitioner is better qualified to suggest a remedy that suits the best.
